From the article that introduced a story mainly on the life and art style of John Cage, I think it explained really clearly that the man with his famous 4'33" has created a whole new generation of arts. Despite the fact his helper or some other co-workers might have some kind of trouble when working on his projects, but got criticized by him. The 4’33” style is a historical revolution of how arts could be made, it is quite similar to the Fountain by Marcel Duchamp. I am not sure if Duchamp made this decision in purpose, or just for trolling in the very beginning. The final result of both these two art pieces are bringing up challenges for people’s ideas about art and how art should be made.
John Cage thought artists should be able to manage sounds as freely as managing paintings and drawings, but paints and colors are more realistic compare to sounds. Take the Fountain into consideration, it is an object with shapes and color. Why is that? Because we can see and know it has its own shape. For a sound, we might not have a clear notion on what that sound is, as the water dipping is the same as blood dipping. In the end, I think the ultimate idea would be cooperate with viewer’s imagination in every piece of art. If a work of art can interact with viewers, and reminds them of something, somebody, part of history, or imagine for the future, that piece of art should be considered as a good piece of art.
